Environment and TV monitors: a very real cost.

This is an interesting comment on the piece below (“Future of TV Set – WiFi digital photo frames”). Developing image rich monitors comes at a very real cost.

Over the next decades Television sets will eat up far more electricity than they do currently (yes I know it’s a dud pun). The TV set is already the second most power-hungry device in your home and it’s getting hungrier.

Digital CEnergy (DCE) have released an Australian Report on energy use in domestic televisions. The move away from Cathode Ray, the increasing number of sets per household and the almost universal use of the standby mode will massively increase energy use in this country. The Report is mellifluously entitled:

Television Energy Rating Labels:
The case, and proposal, for MEPS and
Labelling Televisions
Report 2007/10

but don’t allow that to put you off. It’s a fascinating read.
